Purple Tears

Houston, 1969: I fell hopelessly in love
That instant my attention was magnetically
Drawn to you, all brand new and shiny
Dressed in avocado green and milky white
Your chrome grill grinning

And protected me so well

On you driving my life around
Strange how you seemed to never age
Became more beautiful day-by-day
Wearing your new coat of royal purple
So sad that now we must part
Breaking my heart
Leaving you parked in someone
Else’s warm garage arms
It will drive me plum crazy
To have to leave deep purple tears
Dripping down your shiny, chrome bumper.
