Dead Poets Society ? No . I don’t mean that we are an army of dead poets , I just mean that maybe John Keating was right when he said poetry is what we stay alive for because tell me why only poets can understand the story of Medusa even though they were never victims of her wrath . I think that poetry is hope when there is barely any . I think that poetry is believing that you will make it through the next day with your heart drumming against your ribcage , while trying to stay afloat because you never were taught how to swim , so you raise your head a little bit above the water and hope you make it till the next day . I think poetry is the features of a woman , from her thighs covered in cellulite and her breasts dripping milk just after she gave life to a being . Maybe poetry is your coffee stained t-shirts , I think poetry is the scars on your arms dripping blood , just after you carved it and turned it into art . I think poetry is how you look like , when your hair is all over your face and your eyes slowly closing on days that you can barely make it out of bed . I think poetry is simply just your room that smells like a dumpster because depression came knocking and it didn’t knock this time . Maybe poetry is the smell of wine on your lips and your horrible laughter , or the dance moves that you can't pull off , or it’s the sound of your voice when you sing terribly at karaoke like the world will come crashing down any moment and you cant help but love that . Maybe poetry is the two men who passed you on the street at night after wasting your life away in a club and you thought it was over for you , but they didn’t even stop to steal a glance at you . I refuse to believe that poetry is roses , and sunsets and the waves of an ocean . Maybe poetry is also ugliness , the type that’s beautiful . Maybe poetry is living . Maybe you’re poetry — poetry is beautiful!
