Comrade in Paradise

Admit it,
I never really claimed
to be a palpable poet anyway.

I’ll take just laying around
on my Castro Convertible couch
(not like in Fidel)
watching the Super Bowl any old day.

especially when my team
is playing in the game—
Ginsberg talked me into
this poetry hullabaloo.
For him poetry was a means
to portraying life’s journey.

He advised me to keep a notepad
always ready in my pocket
for jotting down thoughts etc--
and being open to absolutely everything,
and to pointlessly nothing.
