Dera R. Williams is an Oakland writer who writes in the fiction, nonfiction and memoir genres. Dera has contributed to over a two dozen anthologies and has co-authored a work of fiction, Mothers and Daughters. She has contributed to the best-selling All the Women in My Family Sing: Essays on Equality, Justice, and Freedom and Where's My Tiara. She has compiled a collection of childhood memories, In My Backyard: Stories of Growing Up in Oakland. Exploring the relationship of myth and family history in her writing, she honors the voices of her ancestors’ stories.
